Welcome to the

Eldar Barnir Foundation

A foundation for the promotion of sports in Israel

About

The Elder Barnir foundation was established to continue the path of Elder Barnir who was a dedicated tennis coach..

The goals of the foundation are the promotion of sport in Israel through the tennis branch by organizing activities  while fostering decency, values education, discipline and improving physical fitness among children and youth. Also to create social formation among youth mainly through the schemes of coexistence between Jews and Arabs.

Foundation’s activities

A coexistence program

A program manages a tennis club with 4 courts at the Arab Abu Ghosh village and is subsidized for local children. The village is located among number of Jewish neighborhoods. Although the business community is fairly integrated for many years, the educational systems are totally separated.

Our goal is to create a much deeper integration among the future generation that is so important to our future together. In addition, we strive to train local instructors to ensure the long-term continuation of the program.

Israel Tour

It is a national circuit of tennis competitions for children and youth at the levels of beginners and advanced without or with a lower  national ranking. The circuit consists of five competitions that take place throughout the country throughout the year, with the competitors receiving ranking points.

The top players are invited to the Champion of Champions that takes place at the end of the year. The circuit founded in 2006 and thousands of children have already participated in it, some of whom have gone on to the highest levels and become professionals.

School Programs

In addition to the club programs, in cooperation with the city council and the Israel Tennis Federation, we operate inside the local school on a weekly basis. We expose the children to the sport while bringing all the necessary equipment. The children get their own racquet and T-shirt.  Our goal is to increase their commitment to the sport, to come for training on a regular bases and eventually to represent the village in local, sectional, and national competitions.

A program for competitive children

In collaboration with the Tel Aviv Tennis Academy, the association managed a competitive program for children and youth at a national level. The children practice every day and are accompanied by fitness, psychology, and nutrition experts.

Tennis School

The foundation had managed a tennis school in Tel Aviv for 17 years while providing scholarships and subsidizing costs for local children. Thousands of children and adults were trained over the years.

Eldar Barnir

Eldar lost his life due to a car accident on 16.10.2008 during Succoth holiday.

Eldar was born on 21.11.1964 in Tel Aviv, first born to Ora and Shraga Barnir. Up to the age of 12, he spent time in Zair, Cambodia, and Belgium due to his parents’ job as representatives of the foreign ministry.

Eldar was multi-talented. He loved to write, and paint but more than that he loved playing tennis and playing a guitar. As a youth, he participated in many tennis competitions and won many trophies. He was very interested in teaching tennis and went through teaching training at. The age of 17, and started working with children.

In 1983, after graduating high school he enlisted in the army as a combat soldier in Golani. In 1986, after completing the army service he participated in higher tennis coaches training and started working as a coach in the Israeli Tennis Centers.

In 1988 he took time off and went to Spain for almost 2 years to study Flamenco Guitar, a style that he was passionate about. When he came back he was teaching both guitar and tennis.

In the next few years, he worked as a tennis coach in a few clubs including the tennis center in Ramat Hasharon where he gained a vast amount of knowledge and experience.

In 2005, Elder decided to set out on his own and founded the Kfar Truman Tennis School. Little by little he acquired a reputation and opened tennis clubs in other towns in the Modi’in region, in which about 300 children from the age of 4 to adults took part.

Elder was greatly appreciated and admired by the hundreds of parents and trainees in the tennis circles for his professionalism, dedication, and personal and warm attitude to every student in the circle. Elder made sure to impart to his young students the values of tolerance, friendship, fairness, and sportsmanship and organized many activities that went beyond the teaching of tennis such as trips to different places in the country and more.

Donations

In order to continue and maintain the programs, a fairly large part of the budget for coaches, trophy equipment, awards, shirts, etc. must come from fundraising and sponsors. We will be happy for any possible cooperation that will add to the strengthening and economic security of the long-term plans.
